Executive Transition Coaching

Put Yourself On The Journey to Your Next Opportunity…

After a period of record hiring spurred by the pandemic, 2023 has proven to be challenging in the digital media and technology space. A significant number of people are now involuntarily exiting companies we all thought would never experience layoffs. Recession or not, cultures are changing as historically fast-growing technology businesses come to terms with their maturity and slower growth rates.

Meta/Facebook, Google/Alphabet, Amazon, Twitter, Snap, Salesforce - to name a few. The impact on the technology platforms has trickled down to smaller tech firms and to the myriad of agencies and partners who support them. It now seems like everyone is experiencing (or knows someone who is experiencing) the shock of a job loss.

You can do this!  But you need a well executed plan to make it happen

Career transitions can be daunting but successful transitions require a commitment and a plan that is tailored for your search. If you are seeking an executive level role, or were in your current/most recent role for 5+ years - your search plan has to be well thought out. Remember that the job search process has evolved dramatically from even five years ago. New technology and tools and changes in hiring principles and process brought on in part by the remote work era require a new approach to your job search - even if you are tech savvy.

Get control over your search and increase your confidence

Our transition coaching practice is designed to educate and help you gain control over the process to get you on the journey to your next opportunity. In five sessions over 4-6 weeks, we will work with you to craft a tailored approach for your goals that is modern and proactive. We can help you gain control over your job search and avoid common mistakes made in this new search environment.

Common Mistakes Experienced Executives Make

Sending out an updated resume to your network as your first step in the process.

The first step in your search is to identify the kind(s) of roles you are looking for and how to talk about yourself and your current or most recent experience in a productive way. Sending around a resume does very little to help you and can in fact hurt you in your search effort. If you are seeking a senior role of any kind, it is highly unlikely that your contacts are aware of any open positions that are right for you, let alone one that your resume matches. Moreover, the more people you send your resume to, the more burden you are putting on your valuable network instead of giving them a reason to help you. You also run the risk of being perceived as desperate from which it can be hard to recover.

Not crafting a personal/professional statement as your first step

If you haven’t done this AND you are trying to make a career change, this needs to be your first priority. Your whole job search should be built off of this mission statement. This drives your story and your elevator pitch, and informs your LinkedIn profile as well as your resume. Remember, you can’t build your personal brand without an ownable story that you can feel confident about.

Not prioritizing your LinkedIn profile.

Pro tip: Your LinkedIn profile is your personal storefront. It needs to scream relevance, progress and positive energy. It also needs to include the important keywords that recruiters and job sites are searching for as it relates to the opportunity you are seeking. Does your profile accurately portray your accomplishments and achievements? Does your “About” paragraph reveal what makes you unique or is it dedicated to another list of key skills that someone else could also claim? Remember - a great LinkedIn profile can produce an inquiry. A resume does not get you an interview unless it's requested for a posted role online that you are very interested in. Even then, if you aren’t ready for an interview, your chances of success are greatly reduced.

A good coach keeps you focused on what really matters, which shortens your job search.

Finding a new role in the digital media or technology space can be challenging given the speed of change and the number of startups that have been launched over the last few years. Whether or not your current or most recent role is in the field that you are pursuing, you will need a thoughtful plan to land the role that is right for you.

When you are ready to move forward, we will schedule your intake session and share the course contents with expectations for each session. Before each of our sessions together, we ask that you complete homework assignments. A lot of this homework revolves around introspection and self reflection. Depending on your mindset and when you exited your most recent role, this can be challenging. You may realize that you are not as mentally prepared as you had hoped to start this process. That said, we recommend that you commit to and complete the first session. If we decide together that you are not yet ready to proceed with coaching, we can pause to give you more time. However, if you are having trouble prioritizing your job search, our coaching program can keep you on track. You will then be more likely to prioritize your search effort and put yourself on the right journey to finding your next role sooner.
